Pet Guide for Beginners

Pets in DOMO

If you are new to DOMO, you’ll find one of the most unique things about this wonderful game is the pet system. Most games – if they even have pets – limit pets to certain classes or make them purely for vanity. Not DOMO! While DOMO does have vanity pets, there are tons of unique and powerful combat pets that are available to all classes. This guide will help new players become acquainted with the various types of pets, including special editions, eggsploiters, vanity pets, and non-evolvable pets.

Types of Pets

There are four main categories of “pets” in DOMO. Within each of these categories are sub-categories as well.
  •  Evolvable Pets (Includes Ruby, Sapphire, Jade, Metal, Rock, Love, Dragon, and Kuku)
  • Non-Evolvable Pets (Includes Pupus, Foxes, and Yun Sheng Beasts)
  • Eggsploiters (Includes the 3 variations of Sara Sweetheart and the Meru)
  • Vanity Pets (non-combat pets)

Evolvable Pets

These are the most common pets found in DOMO – and for good reason. They are extremely helpful combat pets that you can level alongside you. When a pet is level 1-10 it is in “egg” form and it is quite weak and can die easily. Once your pet reaches level 10, you can buy an Elementary Evolution Stone from the Pet Shop for 1,000 gold and evolve your pet at the NPC there. When your pet evolves it will become level 11 and be in its first evolution (or “youth” form I guess you could say). Your pet will learn new skills as it levels up and become more powerful.

When your pet reaches level 40, you can purchase an Intermediate Evolution Stone (either from the Item Mall or from other players) and evolve it again. After it evolves it will be level 41 and in its second evolution (or “adolescent” form if you will). It will be even more powerful and its appearance will change drastically.

When your pet reaches level 60, you can purchase an Advanced Evolution Stone (again, either from Item Mall or from other players) and evolve it one last time. After it evolves it will be level 61 and in its final/third evolution (“adult” form). It will be extremely powerful and its appearance will again change drastically – it will be extremely large. Pets that reach this evolution are able to be ridden (with the exception of Love and Jade pets). All you need to do is purchase saddles from either the Item Mall or other players, summon your pet, and double click the saddle to ride it. You can also teach your pet to fly at this evolution. You need to purchase a Flying Upgrade Stone from either the Item Mall or other players, then use the stone on your desired pet and voila – now you can fly on your pet instead of on a weapon!

The Ruby Pet

Element: Fire

Related Class: Wizard

Strong Attributes: Magic Attack, MP

Weak Attributes: Defense, HP

Notes: Ruby pets are sought after for their extremely high magic damage. They are often the pet of choice for solo pet musicians. A 2nd or 3rd evolution Ruby could easily one-shot low level bosses and mobs, making them handy to have on low level alt classes for protection.

The Sapphire Pet

Element: Water

Related Class: Fencer

Strong Attributes: None

Weak Attributes: None

Notes: Sapphire pets are very well-rounded. They don’t really excel at anything, but they are still decent pets to have. They don’t need to rely on their skills to do damage like a Ruby, and can do decent damage without skills (though not as much as a Rock). They get a self buff at 18 and a strong aoe at 61. They are sought after for their beautiful appearance as they look like a majestic…Lapras…

The Rock Pet

Element: Earth

Related Class: Blademaster

Strong Attributes: Attack

Weak Attributes: Magic Defense, Accuracy

Notes: Rock pets are a powerhouse for physical attacks. They really don’t need MP or to use skills (though they will – and will run out of MP like a fat kid runs out of cake), because their basic attacks are going to be doing all the work. They can tank a decent amount, but beware of magic mobs when using these guys. They aren’t really in demand as far as pets go (though moreso than Metal or Jade), but they have their uses – especially at high levels where Earth attacks are needed.

The Metal Pet

Element: Metal (lol?)

Related Class: Mercenary

Strong Attributes: Defense, HP

Weak Attributes: Accuracy, MP

Notes: Metal pets are considered the “tank” pet of the game. They have the highest defense and HP of all pets, and get a defense buff at 18 and an aoe skill at 61. These are probably the least desired pets in the game if they are original (though Jade runs a close second). The reason for this being that they can be obtained for free by doing a quest in game (I recommend having a level 29+ Mercenary with Mock Monsters in your team before attempting it).

The Jade Pet

Element: Wood

Related Class: Thief

Strong Attributes: Evasion, Accuracy

Weak Attributes: Magic Attack, Magic Defense

Notes: Jade pets are definitely a runner-up for the least desired pets, the reason for this being the pet’s stats and the fact that it is one of two evolving pets that cannot be ridden at 3rd evolution. Jades turn into plant men in their final evolution, so riding one of those would be…a bit disturbing to say the least. Their stats aren’t terrible, but they aren’t great either. Mostly the people who have these pets are the ones who want them for looks. At 61 they do get an aoe taunt skill, but beyond that they really have no practical use that could warrant using it instead of another pet.

The Love Pet

Element: None

Related Class: Dancer

Strong Attributes: Magic Attack, Magic Defense

Weak Attributes: Physical Attack, Physical Defense

Notes: Love pets (or Lily as they are commonly called) are the most sought after pets in the game - mostly because of their looks. They are also extremely rare to obtain out of a pet token which makes them even more valuable. As far as combat, the pets themselves aren’t that great compared to some of the others. They do get buffs that will actually buff the player instead of just the pet. They also get a skill at 61 that gives the player’s party a buff as well. The Love pets are like Jades in that they cannot be ridden at 3rd evolution.

The Dragon Pet

Element: Fire, Metal, or Water

Notes: Dragon pets share the same stats and has similar skills to other evolvable pets that share the same element. For example, a Fire Dragon would be comparable to a Ruby. The reactions to the Dragon are a bit mixed to say the least - some people love them and some people hate them. They have had some SE versions released recently, which I think has increased the demand for them somewhat (since the SE versions don't look like Barney).

The Kuku Pet

Element: Fire, Wood, or Water

Notes: Kuku pets are similar to Dragons in that they share the same stats and have similar skills to other evolvable pets that share the same element. For example, a Wood Kuku would be comparable to a Jade. Unlike the Dragon, the Kuku seems to be in a much higher demand (though certainly not as much as say a Ruby or even a Sapphire). They have also received new SE versions as well - including a yellow one that makes it look suspiciously like a chocobo.

Original, Special Edition, and King Pets

Each evolvable pet have 13 different colors they can come in (with the exception of the Dragons and Kukus which each currently only have 6). Each pet has an "Original" version, as well as "Special Edition" (or SE) versions.

As you may have noticed, SE4-SE12 pets (as well as all Dragons and Kukus) can be what are known as “King” pets. There is a 10% chance for a “King” pet when evolving into the 3rd evolution. This basically means your pet will be slightly bigger than normal pets, and may have a slight increase in stats and/or a unique level 61 skill. You can tell if your pet is a “King” pet when you look in a trade window or if you put the pet in a Hibernation Box. “King” pets are worth considerably more money than normal pets.

Non-Evolvable Pets

Non-evolvable pets are pets that do not evolve (simple enough). They are permanently at level 60, are rideable (and flyable), and are either a form of Pupu, Fox, or a Yun Sheng Beast. These pets are fairly comparable to a level 60 un-evolved Rock pet in terms of stats and skills. They are typically used alongside a Tai-Chi Mirror to transfer their level to another pet (the 60 pet is sacrificed to make the desired pet level 60 instead), though some people enjoy having them for looks purposes.

Eggsploiters

Eggsploiters refer to pets who reside in an “egg” while in your inventory until you summon them into the world. When you trap a monster with a monster-trapping mirror, you are creating a temporary Eggsploiter. The permanent Eggsploiters in DOMO are the Meru and the Sara Sweetheart pets. These pets do not evolve and do not level. They are whatever level you are when you summon them (up to 40 for Meru and up to 70 for Saras). There are three different Sara Sweetheart pets - each with different uses and skills: Student, Maid, and Nurse. You can only ever have one Eggsploiter out at a time, and the Eggsploiter will stay with you for 1 hour (and has 1 hour cooldown), unless you die, logout, or change zones. You can have an Eggsploiter and regular pet out at the same time. If you need to heal your Eggsploiter, you can use pet items like Pedigree Powder and Bow-Wow HP Biscuit, as well as Merchant’s HP Medicine Boost skill.

Merus

The Meru is a fairly useful pet for farming as her aoe is not limited to hitting a certain number of mobs. She can hit literally every mob around her with her aoe and never miss. She also has a buff she places on you that is similar to Hunter’s Sneak Peak skill, which lets you see the HP of nearby mobs and players. She also has an aoe sleep spell she will randomly use on monsters. She maxes out at level 40, so if you are higher than 40 she will only ever be 40 when you summon her. This is a fairly sought after pet as she is cute and useful for soloers (and even partiers looking for an extra aoe). To use her aoe skill, right click her and click “special skill” from the menu or typing /petspecial (this can be hotkeyed for easier use).

Student Sara Sweetheart

Like all Saras, she will be available only through Item Mall. If she is Special Edition, she will carry a candy cane as her weapon. She has some self buffs that are similar to Blademaster buffs, and is a great pet to use when soloing for extra dps. She will max out at 70, and her special skill is an aoe.

Maid Sara Sweetheart

A Special Edition Maid Sara will carry a bouquet of flowers as her weapon. She is very similar to a single target Dancer. She gets self buffs for her Magic Attack and Magic Defense, as well as a few powerful single target attacks. She will max out at 70, and her special skill makes her immune to damage for 30 seconds. One of her skills consumes 5 Bags of Ash. Out of all three Saras, this one is probably the least popular.

Nurse Sara Sweetheart

Ahh the subject of much debate on the Suba forums. These ladies are essentially a pocket Doctor+Muse all in one. They will repeatedly heal your HP and MP, as well as cast Doctor buffs on you like Regeneration, Prolong Life, Frog Forcefield, and Yang Frog. A Special Edition Nurse Sara will wield a Soppy Syringe (level 43 syringe) as her weapon. She does attack mobs as well with Health Heist, though she doesn’t do much damage. She will max out at 70, and her special skill is a huge heal that is useful in emergencies. The Nurse also seems to be the only Sara who’s Special Edition actually has a benefit other than an aesthetic weapon – her special skill cooldown is reduced from 30 to 15 seconds. Some of her buffs do consume 3 Frogs each, so make sure you have some on you when you use her. This is probably the most sought-after Eggsploiter in the game, and makes soloing a LOT easier. Some people don’t like the Nurse Sara because of this reason – believing that if people could solo more easily, it would lead to the downfall of aoe parties.

Vanity Pets

Vanity pets are exactly that – pets for vanity. They really serve no other purpose than to look cool (or stupid). Some vanity pets do give a sort of autoloot, but it is not as good as being in an actual autoloot party. Where autoloot parties actually automatically pick up your loot right away, the vanity pets take a while to pick it up, and sometimes they don’t pick it up at all. More often than not you’ve already moved on to another mob before your vanity pet decides to try and pick up your items. You literally have to stand there half the time to wait for your pet to pick up your items, so you may as well just pick them up yourself (or find an autoloot party). Not all vanity pets give this crappy autoloot though, so it’s important to know which ones do and which don’t before you make the mistake of relying on a pet to pick up your items that might not do so. Vanity pets can also be named by using a Vanity Pet Name Tag purchased from the Item Mall or other players.

Pet Loyalty

For Evolvable and Non-Evolvable pets, you will need to keep an eye on their loyalty stat – which is located in the pet window next to the heart icon below your pet’s level. Your pet’s loyalty can be a maximum of 100. If it is below 80 you cannot ride it, below 50 it will not obey commands (such as its special skill), below 40 there is a chance your pet will flee if you summon it (don’t worry, a warning box will pop up before you summon), below 20 it cannot be summoned at all, and below 10 it cannot be traded. You will want to make sure you play with your pet often to avoid its loyalty becoming too low. You can play with your pet by clicking the ball icon in the pet window. Gaining loyalty can take a long time if your pet is a high level (it can take up to 15-18 minutes per loyalty point if your pet is over 60), so you may want to use pet food in order to speed up the process. You can feed your pet by clicking the feed button located in the pet window in-between the summon and play buttons. You can feed your pet either Pet Snacks (which increase loyalty by 2) or Fidelity Fruits (which increase loyalty by 30) – the latter being an Item Mall item. Your pet will lose 1 loyalty every day, and will lose 10 if it dies or you die while it’s summoned. You can avoid the daily loss of loyalty points by putting your pet in a Hibernation Box, though it is not recommended if you use your pet frequently. It may be a good idea if you are planning on being away from the game for a few weeks or more to box up your pets. Your pet’s loyalty will reset to 100 when it is evolved.

Leveling a Pet

If you look at the extended pet window, you may notice that you can set how much of your exp you give to your pet – either 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100%. You can choose to level your pet at the same time as you or take turns leveling yourself and then your pet. Some people choose to wait and level their pets when they start doing Foggy Forest or higher maps (40+) because they give much better exp than the lower areas. Typically people would pet level at Foggy for pets level 11-40, then pet level in Mount Babel from 41-60 (although it is not uncommon to find people leveling pets in Foggy all the way to 60). Some people make money off of leveling pets for others (similar to making money off of powerleveling) or buy low level pets to level up and sell for higher prices.

How do I get a pet?

There are a few ways to get a pet in DOMO. The free (though extremely difficult) way of getting one is to do the Heir of the Farrels quest in Farrel Family Crypt (located in Eversun North). It requires you to be level 20, but I also recommend either being a level 29+ Mercenary or bringing a friend who is. It is extremely hard to complete if you don't have Mock Monsters - not to say it isn't possible, but if you want to save yourself a headache later, this is what I recommend.

The other two ways involve spending money of some kind. You can either spend real life money in the Item Mall and purchase a pet token (currently at 7.5k Suba Points which is less than $9 USD) and take it to the Pet Shop in one of the cities and use it at the Pet Capsule Vending Machine. This will get you a random pet from one of the original pets. Special Edition pets are currently not implemented yet. If you don't want to (or can't) spend real life money, you can always save up some gold and buy one in game off another player. Expect to pay at least 30-50k or even 60k or more for a pet token if you buy one in game. You can also just buy the pet you want straight up instead of gambling with a pet token (would be cheaper that way anyway).

If you end up getting a pet you don't want, you can always try trading it for one you do want (keep in mind that some pets are worth more than others). Keep in mind though that some people consider it rude if you PM them asking to buy/trade for their pet. If you want a specific pet, use Trade chat to let people know you're looking to buy/trade for one.

Original pets are going to be a LOT cheaper than SE pets when they are released, so keep that in mind when looking to buy your pets. Lily/Love and Ruby are the most expensive pets (expect to pay 30-50k+ for a Ruby and over 150-200k for a Lily), whereas Jades and Metals are generally extremely cheap (5-10k usually), and Rocks end up on the low end of the scale, but still higher than Metals and Jades. Depending on how rare SE's are going to be in this version of DOMO, you can probably expect to add anywhere from 200k-1m to the price of a pet for any of its SE's.

  1. Probably would with comments made about love, it's not her attacks that make her popular. It's her buffs and debuffs that put them at the top of the list. Nurse in 2nd then Meru with her AOE.

  2. Oh, Thx so much! I wanted to make sure when it's safe to re-summon my pets - I logged off for a long time and they were at 0 loyalty, I'm almost able to summon my metal egg safely- Yes I had someone help me with that pet quest at lv 20. Most people in guilds will help out when you get to lv 20, especially if you want to be a pet muse.
